How Its Done
Cosmetic Brow Tattoo
What is Feather Touch eyebrow tattooing?
Feather Touch is a method of semi permanent cosmetic tattooing. Unlike normal tattooing, it involves a hand tool called a micro-blade instead of a machine. Using this hand tool and a selection of inks, hair-like strokes are made into the skin in the direction of your natural brow to mimic real hairs. Whether you have naturally uneven brows, are a victim of over-plucking or have suffered from follicle loss due to a medical condition, Feather Touch can help restore your sparse or uneven brows to beautiful, full and natural looking arches.
How long does it last?
Longer than a Kardashian wedding! Jokes aside, most people need touch up appointments every 9-14 months. This is dependent on a variety of factors but ultimately comes down to how well you look after your new Micro bladed eyebrows and your genetics. Because it is a semi permanent tattoo, they should be completely gone within 18 months to 3 years. In rare cases there may me some evidence left in the skin though this is generally due to seeing unprofessional, undertrained tattoo artists sor if you have been getting your eyebrows microbladed for several year in which case there could be faint scarring to the skin’
Does it hurt?
It is more uncomfortable than it is painful. Some say the sensation is very similar to the pinching feeling from threading. The best way we can describe it is as a scratching sensation. Because we are using a microblade as opposed to a machine, it is no where the same as getting a regular tattoo. In fact most people are pleasantly surprised as to how little it hurts!
Will I need any more appointments after my first one?
We require clients to return for a second appointment 4 to 6 weeks after the initial appointment. We call this the “Perfection Visit” because, as the name suggests we perfect and refine the brows and add the finishing touches during this treatment. As everyone’s skin heals differently, some clients may develop patchy areas or the appearance of fading after the first treatment This is completely normal and is not a reason for concern or panic. Occasionally due to poor skin retention a further visit may be required.
Will I get to see the shape and colour of my new Cosmetic Brow Tattoo before tattooing commences?
While we love surprises at Highbrow Society, we feel that they should be reserved for parties and presents NOT for eyebrows. Your eyebrows will be measured and drawn on until you are 100% confident and happy with the shape before we go anywhere near them with microblading tools.
Do I need to have my brows tidied before my Cosmetic Brow Tattoo appointment?
This is one of the facets of our package! We will thread and tweeze your brows for you as required before we proceed with your tattoo, all you have to do is lie back and relax! Please be aware that because of the nature of cosmetic tattooing, we will be unable to tint or wax your brows as we want to minimise disruption to the skin prior to tattooing. We recommend leaving a 72 hour gap between any waxing/tinting brow appointment and your cosmetic tattoo appointment.
If I have Cosmetic Brow Tattoo, will I still need to tint and wax them?
The procedure deposits colour under the skin and not in the pre existing hair follicles themselves which means that clients with fair hair will still need to tint their brow hairs. Fair brow hairs can mask the tattoo colour. However, you will be less reliant on the tint to stain skin and provide coverage for sparse areas of growth. This in turn means you don’t have to tint as frequently to achieve the illusion of thick brows.
Will my brow hairs be shaved off during the treatment?
No, nup, nope, nada, absolutely 100 per cent not! In fact we cannot even fathom a crueller or more unusual punishment to subject a client to (unless you have a suggestion?). Feather Touch aims to blend out hair strokes to the pre existing natural hair growth which means we kinda need your eyebrows intact and not shaved. The hairs help achieve a hyperealistic look.
How soon after my appointments can I have my Brows tinted and waxed again?
We would recommend a minimum of four weeks to ensure they are fully healed.
Can I have Cosmetic Tattoo treatments during pregnancy?
Highbrow Society do not provide cosmetic tattooing services to anyone who is pregnant or might be pregnant. This is a precautionary measure and common within both cosmetic and traditional tattooing cultures. While there are no studies or reports of adverse effects of cosmetic tattooing on the health and wellbeing of an unborn child, we would rather wait until you have had your baby before we tattoo you! Insurance policies DO NOT cover Cosmetic Tattoo during pregnancy.
Can I wear makeup after my Cosmetic Tattoo appointment?
Yes, you can wear makeup on all areas of the face except the Cosmetic Tattoo site itself. You will need to wait a minimum of 7 days before applying makeup to the tattoo site. It is best to get a new pressed powder and a new mascara post tattoo to prevent infecting the area. Also, who doesn’t like new makeup, right?
Is the aftercare difficult?
Not at all! We give you detailed instructions and special Skin Candy aftercare cream to use. Do be aware they will need to be kept dry for a week which means no soaking the tattooed area, no swimming, and no excessive sweating. So saunas, bikram, facials etc are off the cards until the tattoo has healed. No picking at them under any circumstances! As satisfying as it is to pick at scabs, you do not want to end up with patchy eyebrows.
What brand of needles and pigments do you use?
We use a Serbian range called Phibrows. Phi Brows are a beautiful highly pigmented product with stable colours and no reactions to magnets. It is completely synthetic which means it doesn’t have an iron oxide base like most other pigments on the market. The needles are extremely sharp and precise resulting in crisp, beautiful work every time. The products themselves are on the pricey side which is why we charge accordingly for our appointments. But as the old saying goes good work ain’t cheap and cheap work ain’t good (particularly when you are tattooing your face!).
Do you do fix ups of other places work?
Far too often for comfort. Yes, it is a good source of income for the business but it is something that we would rather not be doing to the extent we are doing currently. Sometimes it takes several visits to repair. A few cosmetic surgeons in and around Perth send us large volumes of fix ups to see if we can help before resorting to laser removal. About 30-35% of Sara’s work are corrections. There have been situations where we have had to turn people away because there was nothing we could do to help them and that is upsetting in its own right. If you want brow work fixed please send photos through so we can take a look at them and make an assessment. We can also refer you for saline or laser removal if we are unable to help
